Beyond the Beach – The Hell and the Hope gives a glimpse into the lives of doctors, nurses and volunteers who have given up their everyday lives to work in war-torn parts of the world for the Italian NGO Emergency. Created in 1994 by war surgeon Gino Strada, Emergency staff have helped save over 9 million lives around the world.
From treating frontline injuries caused by explosions in Kabul, to the monotony of Refugee Camps in Iraq as well as their deployment on the MOAS rescue boats off the coast of Libya, the staff explain how they could not simply stay at home and do nothing knowing they could ‘do something’. We see their laughter, tears and, at times, frustration doing what very few people are brave enough to do and we learn the hardships and emotional stress that they must endure to carry out their missions while never losing hope…
Following its world premiere by invitation at the Venice Film Festival in late 2019, Beyond the Beach is planned to be released theatrically worldwide in early 2022.
Following his mother’s death, Cormac O’Reilly, special advisor to the British PM, returns home to Northern Ireland for the first time since he fled at the height of the Troubles, and is forced to confront his secret past or risk losing his daughter and the life he has built.
Cormac has lived in England since the mid-80s. Only his mother’s death can force him to return to the Northern Irish town of Fivemiletown; he fled after his youthful involvement in a foiled IRA attack. The horror of the event and fear of reprisal for desertion has informed his life and political work. Now a widower, he keeps his daughter, Annie, away from her Irish roots and has long repudiated his Irish family in order to keep his secret. He hopes to stay only a few days, but once home, the past comes racing back.
Now, he must face not just his family and former love, but his nemesis, Liam, commander of an extremist group who regards Cormac as the traitorous representation of the government he loathes. Liam’s plan is to destroy both Cormac and Ireland’s peace. In a race against time, Cormac must battle to save his daughter and prevent Liam from dismantling his life’s work… Peace.
Dover Street Entertainment present a new series, based upon the life of one of only two journalists granted permission to travel with and stay at the same hotels as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones while on tour in the 1960s. After a year of interviews, the production team have pieced together a fictionalised version of these intriguing and eye-opening stories. The series follows the protagonist’s life between 1962 and 1969 as she explores relationships with super stars and witnesses the birth of a generation.
After completing school 18-year-old Chrissie, completely by chance, embarks on a career of pop journalism, rubbing shoulders with the biggest stars of the 1960s along the way. Navigating London’s societal shifts whilst beginning an odyssey of friendships, she rides the intoxicating ebb and flow of the music industry. Chrissie experiences it all as an insider from pop magazines to record labels, prime time television to international tours with the Beatles, she weaves herself into this fascinating tapestry of London’s history forming relationships that will last a lifetime.
A dramatic series with comedic undertones. For generations, the Fraser-Coates have graced society; they are the quintessential aristocratic family, with an abundance of old money and estates. However, whilst being one of the oldest banking institutions, the family have hidden their less respectable profession of ‘gentleman thievery’, specialising in the business of stealing art.
Dating back centuries, Thomas Fraser-Coates, a little-known financial advisor to the Crown, kept a secret account allocated by the monarch, in the event of war with France or Spain. From that alliance, one of the most trusted and powerful banking dynasties was born. As compensation for his loyalty, Thomas was to be gifted a painting, whose provenance dated back to Catherine de Medici, and throughout history has only ever been referred to – as legend would have it – as the original Mona Lisa. Unfortunately, before it was bestowed upon Thomas, one of the courtiers insisted that it be given to another at Court. This event would spark the hidden profession that runs through the family to this day – cat burglary.
Old-school journalist Hugh Stanton is getting outstripped by the new click-hungry generation writing for The London Post. He’s too expensive to get rid of, and much too expensive to keep, so editor Hamish Aird puts him out to pasture in a job he knows the America-phobic Hugh will hate: White House Correspondent. Either Hugh quits, or he cocks it all up and can be fired. Win-win.
After Hugh blunders his way into the lie of the century, he’s got to find his way back to the truth. As a scandal snowballs to catastrophic proportions, Hugh is put under immense pressure to sacrifice his journalistic principles and embrace the new culture of fake news. If the result is the same, and he still manages to take down the inept, corrupt, wannabe-dictator in the White House, what does the truth really matter?
